Source

Human / Cynomolgus / Mouse / Rat GDF-8 Protein, Tag Free (GD8-H5344) is expressed from CHO cells. It contains AA Asp 267 - Ser 375 (Accession # O14793). In the region Asp 267 - Ser 375, the amino acid sequences of Human, Cynomolgus, Mouse and Rat GDF-8 are identical.

Predicted N-terminus: Asp 267

Molecular Characterization

This protein carries no "tag".

The protein has a calculated MW of 12.4 kDa. The protein migrates as 12.0 kDa under reducing (R) condition, and 11 kDa and 25 kDa when calibrated against Star Ribbon Pre-stained Protein Marker under non-reducing (NR) condition (SDS-PAGE) due to glycosylation.

Endotoxin

Less than 0.01 EU per μg by the LAL method / rFC method.

Purity

>90% as determined by SDS-PAGE.

Formulation

Lyophilized from 0.22 μm filtered solution in 50 mM HAC, pH3.0 with trehalose as protectant.

Background

Growth differentiation factor 8 (GDF8), also known as myostatin, is a unique member of the transforming growth factor-β superfamily that is expressed in human granulosa cells and has important roles in regulating a variety of ovarian functions. GDF8 acts as a negative regulator of skeletal muscle growth and differentiation. In addition to the expression in the musculoskeletal system, GDF8 is also expressed in various tissues, including the reproductive system.
